Cancer Etiquette Advice for Friends and Family

Cancer strikes us when we least expect it. Whether it's via a family member, friend or acquaintance.

We are caught off guard. We aren't sure what we should say or do.

We don't want to say the wrong thing. We don't want to offend anyone. We've never been in this situation before. We live and learn.

I've been on both sides of the spectrum a few times. I've learned along the way. I've learned what to say and what not to say. I've learned what to do and what not to do.

I've made a few mistakes. I've asked questions to patients and caregivers. They were more than willing to share their opinions, advice and dislikes.

Cancer fighters didn't ask to become a victim of this dreadful disease. They have their plate full worrying about their health and this should be their only concern. It's up to the rest of us to be there for them.

Cancer Etiquette is something we should all learn just in case one day we might need the lesson. I hope this article helps you learn a few things about what to say or do when you are faced with the dreaded cancer dilemma.
